Boehner: Farm Bill Will Wait Until After Election

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) announced on Thursday that he has no intention of bringing a new Farm Bill will to the floor until after the November election, citing a lack of votes for either an extension or an entirely new measure.  The current Farm Bill expires on September 30.

"We will deal with the farm bill after the election," Boehner told reporters during a press conference.

Asked whether that meant consideration of a full five-year bill or an extension, Boehner said "the current situation we face is that we've got people who believe there's not enough reform in the farm bill that came out of committee."

"We’ve got others who believe there’s too much reform in the bill that came out of the committee. In our opinion there would be less than 218 votes to pass either an extension or to consider the entire farm bill. When we get back we will deal with the issue of the farm bill.”
