On the heels of President Obama's announcement this week that he supports same-sex marriage, the White House has newly released this photo taken in the Oval Office with the cast of ABC sitcom Modern Family, which features a storyline about a gay couple with kids. Star Sofia Vergara is beside the President, and co-star Julie Bowen is center. All were shortly headed to the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner on Saturday, April 28, where the President gave the comedic keynote.

Obama daughters Malia, 13, and Sasha, 10, are big fans of Modern Family, the President told People magazine last December--and it was dinnertime conversations with the girls about same-sex marriage that led in part to the President's position "evolving," he said.  Vergara met the girls and took photos with them during her White House visit, then dished about it on the Red Carpet as she arrived for the WHCA dinner.

"I already met the President today and the First Family at the White House," Vergara told the reporters gathered at the Washington Hilton for the celebrity dinner arrivals.

Vergara dubbed it "amazing" that Malia, 13, and Sasha, 10, love Modern Family, and said she took photos with the girls during her White House visit.

"They're very, you know, beautiful girls, very elegant, very nice," Vergara said.

After the dinner, Vergara snuggled with Social Secretary Jeremy Bernard at an after party.

Verara was also the subject of one of comic Jimmy Kimmel's jokes during the dinner, as he riffed on the Secret Service prostitution scandal at the Summit of the Americas in Columbia.

"She's from Colombia. This is what women look like in Colombia," Kimmel said. "What's the Secret Service supposed to do?"
