Wooing the mom vote: "My mother was the single most important influence in my life," President says...
In a 2:34 minute Mother's Day video message released on Sunday morning from Obama for America, President Obama touts his Administration's achievements on womens issues as he hails the three most important women in his life: First Lady Michelle Obama--"the best mom I know"--his mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, and his maternal grandmother, Madelyn Dunham. The video includes photos of the young Barack Obama with his mother and grandmother, and photos of the First Family before and after they were in the White House. "The issues that mothers face--those are issues that matter to all of us," the President says.

A screen at the end of the video urges viewers to "share this with a mom."

"I think it's important to recognize that moms come in a lot of different shapes and sizes," President Obama says. "You know, my mother was the single most important influence in my life. I saw her struggles as a single mom."

Calling his daughters Malia, 13, and Sasha, 10, "magical," the President says it's due to Mrs. Obama: "In fairness I've got to give her most of the credit."

"That model of strong responsible women, but also incredibly loving women, has been a great gift for my girls because they can see every day the contributions women are making in their own family," he said.

Getting to his re-election message, the President describes two of his Administration's major accomplishments for women--the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Affordable Care Act.

The Campaign this week ran a Mother's Day card-writing campaign for the First Lady, urging supporters to donate after they signed a card for Mrs. Obama. At left, Campaign ads like this one in the Los Angeles Times urged supporters to sign the First Lady's card. "Paid for by Obama for America" reads the fine print on the bottom.

The First Lady hosted a Joining Forces Mother's Day Tea on Thursday at the White House for three generations of military families. Read about the event here.

Mrs. Marion Robinson
, the First Lady's mother, lives at the White House, and Mrs. Obama hailed her at the Tea, and again on Twitter on Sunday in a Mother's Day greeting.

"I want to wish a very happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms out there, especially mine. She’s my rock every single day. Love you, mom. –mo," was posted on @MichelleObama.

Tweets with "-mo" are from the First Lady rather tha
n staff.

The President's mother passed away on November 7, 1995, and his grandmother passed away on Nov. 2, 2008, two days before her grandson was elected. President Obama has no public events scheduled today. (Above: The screen message at the end of the Mother's Day video)
