President will raise millions during two-day swing with celebrity concerts & two high-dollar dinners...With thirty days left until Election Day, President Obama arrived in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon to begin a lucrative two-day fundraising junket. After September's record-breaking haul, he's closing in on raising $1 billion for this election cycle, and the swing through the Golden State will offer millions more. Landing shortly after 1:00 PM on a sunny and warm day, the President traveled by helicopter and then motorcade to the home of Jeffrey Katzenberg, DreamWorks Animation CEO, for the start of a push to fill his war chest that included a concert with major music powerhouses--Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson--and a $25,000/plate dinner for 150 guests courtesy of chef Wolfgang Puck. George Clooney and President Bill Clinton joined President Obama in Los Angeles, as did major donors and entertainment industry power players.
The President stood to raise at least $5 million on Sunday. Joined by Clinton, he arrived at Katzenberg's mansion on Loma Vista Drive in Beverly Hills at 1:51 PM for a two-hour private meeting with twelve major donors. The event, where both Presidents made remarks, was to thank the silk-pocketed faithful, according to a campaign spokesman, who described the guests as "high-dollar donors who have maxed out or contributed a high amount to the campaign around other events before." Campaign spokesman Jen Psaki, as usual, declined to release the names of the guests.
Katzenberg, a top-tier supporter, co-hosted the President's May fundraising dinner at Clooney's Studio City mansion. That event, attended by Hollywood stars and powerbrokers, raised more than $15 million.
Clinton will attend a fundraising breakfast in Los Angeles on Monday morning with more supporters, including the two winners of the campaign's 'Meet Two Presidents' contest. The lucky ladies both happen to be from swing states: Vicki Moore from Matthews, North Carolina and
Linda Romans-Hnath from Broadview Heights, Ohio.
Clooney was scheduled to join the President on Sunday evening, making remarks during the President's 6:00 PM "30 Days To Victory" concert at the Nokia Theater in Hollywood, home of the Academy Awards. About 6,000 supporters were expected for the concert from Wonder, Hudson, Katy Perry, Earth Wind & Fire, and Jon Bon Jovi. All but Perry have performed for the President before. Tickets started at $250, and there were limited Gen44 tickets available for $44. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro also spoke.
At 9:00 PM, the President was scheduled to attend his third fundraiser, the $25,000/plate dinner for 150 guests, courtesy of Puck. It was held at Puck's WP24 restaurant, located on the twentieth floor of the Ritz-Carlton hotel, which offers glimmering views of the City of Angels. Puck catered the Clooney dinner in May.
The President will spend the night in Los Angeles. On Monday morning, he makes his first visit to the San Joaquin Valley, to dedicate the César E. Chávez National Monument. The President will be joined by Mayor Villaraigosa, as well as by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis.
After, the President flies to Northern California for three more fundraising events, including a $20,000/plate dinner hosted by chef Alice Waters and cooked with the help of chef Tyler Florence. Singer John Legend will perform.
